Subject: History
Stage 4: The Mediterranean World - Rome
Content skills:
For the most part this is designed to simply increase knowledge about the ancient world through topics that students wouldn't fine 'boring'.
This site covers the student's ability to:
- recoginise the differences between cultures through the varying tactics employed by various armies.
- Students will further be able to identify several contacts and conflicts of peoples within the ancient world
- they will also be able to describe significant contacts with other societies in the ancient world, with particular regard to warfare.
Syllabus Outcomes covered:
- HT4-2: describes major periods of historical time and sequences events, people and societies from the past
- HT4-9: uses a range of historical terms and concepts when communicating an understanding of the past
- others are touched on, however not enough so as to warrant mention here
Assesments:
There are 3 types of assesment on this site. quizzes, opinion pieces and a research project.
In regard to the quizzes:
- They are small 5 question multiple choice answer questions that are given to students at the end of each battle.
- these quizzes are meant to test the students own knowledge of the subject matter, answers are to be written in books and checked by teacher.
In regard to opinion pieces:
- These are to be short written pieces to be done by students for each battle.
- They need only be a few sentences describing the Students opinion on the issue presented
- This question has no technically wrong answer unless answer is completely unrelated to question
In regard to research project:
- Students are to pick a battle they find the most interesting and choose an historical figure from it.
- They are to then research this historical figure and compile a fact sheet on this figure
- Facts should be split into 2 categories: general facts and significant events
- Facts should be in bullet point form
- In the significant events category, fact shouldform a psudeo timeline with dates used where appropriate
HINTS
- There is a games page on this site, this should be used as a reward for those who complete work early and is as such can only be accessed by entering http://thegreatromanarmy.weebly.com/game-page.html into the address bar. Students whom you decide have done a satisfactory amount of work should be given access to this page.
- These is a small easter egg located somewhere on this site, it is subtle and will not be found easily. Tell students about it to encourage close examination of every page
- Apart from those 2 easter eggs the site is fairly straightforward and if you use this page as a guide should be easy to follow.
